In 2007, the Foundation entered into a 5 year agreement with the University of South Florida in Tampa to build a scholarship endowment to serve students in financial need.  Under the terms of the agreement, the University of South Florida obtains matching grants from the Foundation of up to $120,000 per year.  In order to be eligible for the Foundation grants, the University must obtain matching funds in ever increasing proportions.  In the last three years of the agreement, for example, the University must obtain 3 matching dollars for each 1 Foundation dollar.  In addition, the State of Florida is expected to match both the University’s funds and the Foundation’s grant.  The end result will be a scholarship endowment in excess of $2 million to support students who would otherwise been unable to attend the University of South Florida.  By continuing to provide need based scholarships to a diverse population of deserving students, the University of South Florida and the Johnson Scholarship Foundation are reaching out to students in financial need and helping to prepare them for better jobs, more control over their lives, and a brighter future.
